Our Dentists

Dr Jerry Abells

General Dentist

Dr. Abells graduated high school at Grant Park High School in 1981. Thereafter, he enrolled at the University of Manitoba and entered the Faculty of Sciences. In 1988, he graduated from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry. He is a member of the Canadian Dental Association, Manitoba Dental Association, Winnipeg Dental Society, Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, Pharmaceutical and Behavior Management Group, and the Chicago Dental Society. His passion for education includes attending the Pankey Dental Institute in Key Biscayne, Florida for 6 years, and has attended numerous dental lectures yearly in Canada, Europe, and the US. He has a keen interest in dental technology and loves using the latest proven techniques and materials in his practice, such as a dental microscope and dental imaging. He has a special interest in root canal treatment, crown and bridge, and dental implant surgery and restorations.

Often asked why he chose to be a dentist, and he will tell you. He originally wanted to be an architect. He later had a keen interest in engineering, medicine, and math. A lightbulb went off when it was suggested to him that dentistry encompassed all his interests.

Dr. Abells has served as a member of the Peer Review Committee for the Manitoba Dental Association, and volunteered at MDA sponsored public events.

Challenging his comfort zone, he volunteered to participate in 3 All Dentist musicals. Where dentists volunteer to act, sing and dance…all for charity. His skills were put to use in Young Frankenstein, Lucky Stiff, and Addam’s family. He has been cast as a vampire, a dead ancestor and a cool punk rocker! He claims he didn’t have to act for this last one!

Dr. Abells has three boys who are following careers of their own.

His hobbies include listening to documentaries via podcasts, travel, exercise at the gym, listening to music (The Eighties of course!), and spending time with family/friends. Nowadays, he and his partner, when not working, exercise, cook, go to the lake where they like to hike, canoe, sit by camp fires, and spend time with friends.

Past hobbies included astronomy, fixing up old cars, and downhill skiing. Dr. Abells claims an old football injury prevents him from skiing anymore, but in truth, he never played football!
Dr Adriana Gomez Arbelaez

Periodontist

Dr. Adriana Gomez is originally from Colombia, where she obtained her DMD with distinction from Bosque University in Bogota, Colombia in 1995 and in 2000 specialized in Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the same university.

Her interest in gum disease, implants and bone regeneration, inspired her to pursue to become a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC). In 2013 she graduated from The University of Manitoba as a Periodontal Specialist. Based on her academic excellence, she was awarded the Alpha Omega Scholarship, and she also received Research Recognition from the National Research Council of Canada. Dr. Gomez authored poster presentations at the American Academy of Periodontology Conference in Miami in 2011 and Los Angeles in 2012.

She is a member of the Canadian Academy of Periodontology, the American Academy of Periodontology, the Manitoba Dental Association, the Manitoba Society of Periodontists, the Canadian Dental Association, the Chicago Dental Society, Alpha Omega fraternity. She is the president of the Manitoba Periodontal Society.

In 2015, she received a certificate of Appreciation from the Colombian Association of Manitoba for her contributions, dedication, and progress of the Province of Manitoba as a Periodontist, presented by the Mayor of Winnipeg, Brian Bowman. She has been apart of the All-Musical Dentist Musicals. In 2017, she had a main roll in Lucky stiff as “Rita Laporta”, and in 2019, a roll in the assemble in The Adams Family, where she had to go outside of her comfort zone singing, dancing, and acting for charity purposes.

Dr. Gomez owns her own specialty practice, and her portfolio includes all aspects of gum, bone issues, and implantology. Her practice emphasizes high quality procedures, patient education and excellence in clinical care. Dr. Gomez uses the most up-to-date technology to remain abreast of the latest techniques and treatment options.

She welcomes new patients and is looking forward to meeting and working with you.
